Gibo: Stepmother's Sin

I came across Gibo: Stepmother's Sin by complete accident and was shocked to find out that this is actually a classic lewd visual novel that has been re-released several times over the years. Well, being a lewd game lover, I wanted to try this out as I have had a lot of fun playing adult visual novels from a decade or so ago. This is a pretty fun one, and I bet at the time it was very controversial. However, this is a game where the developer/writer was clearly having a fun time, and I get the impression that they were going for a dark sense of humor with the writing.

Not For His Eyes

Before we get to the present of the story in Gibo: Stepmother's Sin, we have to dive into our main character Yusuke’s past. When he was a kid, he came home one day and caught his mother up against the door, getting railed by some dude who was not his father! This led to two things: first of all, his father divorced his mother and kicked her to the curb. However, this incident would have a profound lasting effect on Yusuke, as after this, he developed a strong distrust and disrespect for women.

Getting It Anyway He Can!

In the present time of Gibo: Stepmother's Sin, Yusuke is at home alone as his dad is away on business when a woman in her 30s comes into the house, Misako. Turns out that Misako is his new stepmother (or gibo), and she, along with her 18 year old daughter, Shiina, are moving in! This kind of enrages Yusuke, so he plans on turning his new stepmother into his personal sex slave. Oh, he also has a thing for step-sis and his hot cousin, Mio, as well! The writing here is hilarious, and some of the dialogue legit made me crack up. The thing is, the story plays it all straight, and I think that is what makes the dark humor really shine through. However, if dark humor sometimes goes over your head, you may not get into the story as much.

That Is Some Interesting Ways To Go

Gibo: Stepmother's Sin is a lewd visual novel, but each chapter of the story gives you a few different choices to make. As well as making the choices, Misako has a lust and love meter, and this is pretty interesting as it will dictate which of the several endings you will get. These range from a more wholesome ending, a stripper ending to her straight up saying she cannot be with you as your penis is too big! I do think that most of the choices seem to lead to the same or a very similar path, but I do think there is more than enough here to make at least one more playthrough something that is worth your time.

A Sign Of The Times

From what I have seen, Gibo: Stepmother's Sin was first released in the early part of the 2000s, and as soon as you know this, that does make a lot of sense. This is a very anime looking game, and I think that the art design is very much a product of its time. That is not meant in a derogatory way or anything like that, as a matter of fact, the three ladies in this game are all very easy on the eyes and there is some great XXX artwork here. However, I do think that those who are used to a more modern anime look may take a little while to click with the whole vibe that this game has going on.

Pros:

• I thought the main character was very amusing
• The dark sense of humor in the story was a lot of fun
• It has some very nice looking early 00s style art
• There are multiple endings, so it does have some good replay value

Cons:

• The dark sense of humor may be lost on some people
• It does have a bit of an “older” look to it as far as the presentation goes
