This is one of those series that I have just gotten more and more into, and I think that Garten of Banban 6 is another solid entry in the series. Look, at the end of the day, we are at the sixth instalment here, if the previous games did not grab your attention or win you over, what are you even still doing here! For those who have enjoyed this creepy tale and the quest to save a missing child. I think that there is more than enough to entice you here and make you want to jump straight into the next game. This one here is a fun time, sure, it may be short, but it does what it does very well.
The Next Level!
After the events of what went down last time, Garten of Banban 6 sees the player and Sheriff Toadster fall to the lower level, where the nefarious Sir Dadadoo, and the naughty ones are waiting for you. I do not want to go into any big spoilers here, just in case you have not played through this chapter yet. However, for me, it worked really well, and the overall quest of this person trying to save their child is a quest that is very easy to get behind and makes you wonder just if this is going to have a good or a tragic ending.
Trust No One!
One of the things that I love about this series, and Garten of Banban 6 really leans into this, is just who the hell you can trust. Is Banban really an ally? I have to be honest, I always felt that Sheriff Toadster was a certified G and that he was my homie. However, everyone else, even at this point, the game did a fantastic job of making me paranoid and not sure who was really looking to help the player or not. I think if you have never played any of these games, jumping in, now that there are eight (as of me writing this) parts to this story, it would be so awesome to experience this narrative, one piece after the next.
More Of The Same Please
The gameplay of Garten of Banban 6 is pretty much the same as we have had for the previous games. You will need to explore the underground facility where all kinds of hellacious experiments were conducted. The opening of the game requires a bit of precision parkour platforming. This works for the most part, but even the most hardcore fan of this series has to admit, the controls are not the smoothest. This is pretty short, but that is to be expected. Still, I do think that the shorter length works to the game's advantage as it is more about exploring and continuing the narrative than offering a new and varied gameplay experience.
The Creepy Gang
One of the things that I love about Garten of Banban 6 and the series in general is the visuals. This is in the same vein as stuff like the Poppy Playtime and Five Nights at Freddy’s games in terms of its style and the kind of audience that it is going for. This game has some awesome character designs. I have name-dropped him a few times, but Sheriff Toadster is my personal favorite. Sure, sure, he may not be as creepy-looking as the other main characters, but I just love his design. There are a few jump scares in the game; there is one early on with Nanny. It scared the hell out of me and then had me laughing as it got me so good!
You would think by this point, the series would be losing steam, but Garten of Banban 6 showed that the developer/writer is really getting into their stride here and that the overall lore that they are creating is just getting deeper and deeper. The mixture of trying to save your kid and being stuck in this freaking weird and creepy place with all these unsettling characters that you do not know if you can trust. I thought this was a fun and creepy time, and that is all you can ask for from this series at this point.
Pros:
- I liked the continuation of the story
- The gameplay is the same as always
- There is one of the best jump scares in the series
- Sheriff Toad is possibly my favorite character in the franchise!
Cons:
- Like the other games, you need to play the rest to appreciate this
- It is still a rather short game, like all of the others
