Gangs of Sherwood

Gangs of Sherwood is one of those games that I was shocked I had not heard about before my friend told me about it. Growing up in the UK, the legend of Robin Hood is something that I am very familiar with. I have seen many incarnations of this story over the years, but what we have here is possibly the most interesting and unique take on this legend that I can recall hearing. This is an action game that is made with playing with friends in mind and today we are taking a closer look at it.

The Science Of Nottingham

The twist to the classic Robin Hood story that Gangs of Sherwood is telling is that this is not the classic, messing around the woods, robbing from the rich to give to the poor Robin Hood story that we have all heard before. In this world, The Sherrif of Nottingham has gotten his hands on the Philosophers Stone which has led to him having great power and being able to have a flying castle, powerful machines, and powered up soldiers! Robin and his band of Merry Man need to stand up for England and take him down!

The Fab Four!

No, we are not talking about The Beatles, but the cast of characters that we can play as in Gangs of Sherwood. You may be thinking that Robin Hood is the hero here and the only character that we should play as. However, that is not the case, Maid Marian, Little John, and Friar Tuck can be played as. Each character has their own abilities, moves and so on to make them feel unique as you play as them. You can play this on your own, but teaming up and unleashing team combos and working together I think is where the real fun of this game is going to be.

Taking On The Forces Of The Sherrif!

Gangs of Sherwood is a 3rd person action-adventure game where you have to lay waste to the vile and oppressive forces that The Sherrif of Nottingham lays before you. You have a ton of smaller, but tougher enhanced soldiers that he has to go through, but there are also boss battles and massive set pieces that you take part in too. It is what you would expect from a 3rd person action game. There is also a good sense of progression here as you can get new upgrades and combos by helping those in need. They let you really tinker with whichever character you are playing as to ensure that they fit the playstyle that you like the best.

A Different Kind Of Sherwood Forest

It is the style and the whole vibe that Gangs of Sherwood has going on that makes this stand out from all the other incarnations of this classic tale. That flying fortress that the Sherrif has, those powered up soldiers carrying out his orders. This is like a dystopian punk like version of England and it looks awesome. I think that the game as a whole has a kind of Assassins Creed style about it, but that is meant as a compliment. I think what they have done here is really cool and I cannot wait to see what surprises this strange version of England has in store.

Pros:

• This is such a cool retelling of the classic Robin Hood story
• You can play as one of four iconic characters
• The gameplay is fun and fast paced
• This is going to be great to play with friends

Cons:

• I hope they add more characters such as Will Scarlet
• As excited as I am, as of writing, I have not had the chance to get my hands on the game myself just yet
