Kickstarter has seen some of the most interesting and unique indie game titles beginnings, and this could be one of the coolest for the past year. Football Story launched its campaign on Kickstarter promising to be more than just another football soccer game. And it is exactly what the name implies. But there are plenty of football games out there, what really makes this one unique? Well, let’s talk about that.

About the game

Football Story is a small game developed by an indie studio and funded on Kickstarter, and that means it is pretty different from titles such as FIFA or PES. Even though those two are the first games that jump to mind when you think of football titles. Everything, from the art and the visuals of the game, to the gameplay it’s completely unique. And even the platforms it launches for (Android, iOS, PC, and Web browser).

In Football Story there are four different stories in the game, as you follow the stories of four different characters. This is all about their lives as they start from zero. However, unlike other football games with career modes, this is the real start from zero.

These characters represent the normal lives of people living in humble towns and slums, and how they use football as a means of moving forward in life. Whether it is to save money to save their family’s business or just escape poverty.

The game has a lot of interesting elements, and they are all very football-related. It's just a face of football we don't usually see in video games.

Unique gameplay

The gameplay is another thing that makes this game completely different from any other football game. Here you play as a character, not the entire team. You’ll have to depend on the AI a lot and use tons of teamwork.

Sure, there’s the multiplayer element which obviously makes the game more fun and competitive. There’s also exploration and story development, and the story takes a lot of impact in the other aspects of the game. In many ways, it is similar to a football version of Stardew Valley.

There are also the character progression sheets, which have the stats of the player you control. You can upgrade them with training and story development. But there are also the base players you can use for a more competitive multiplayer experience.

The online game is completely separate from the story mode, and it’s a multiplatform experience. Even in the PVP online multiplayer, each player can only control one character. So it’s still an intense team effort to win a match in Football Story.

Football Story is a pretty unique football game experience, and as it is right now, it’s really cool. Even though the visuals aren’t incredible, and the art is a little bland, it stands out from other football games. Kinda like what Super Mario Strikers did at its time, it's not the same nor is it as complex developed, but it is still unique.
