Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit

Let me start by saying that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is my favorite FNAF game to date! I like this series, but this was something truly special, a game that felt like it was made specifically for me, and right from the start, I was all in on this. I had been following it before I actually got it and my expectations were high, but it completely surpassed them. I think that this game is great if you are a fan of the series like myself or even if you have not really given it much attention as it more than stands on its own.

The Pit Of The Past

What really drew me in with Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is the story. This is the best story that I have experienced in a game so far this year! We play as a young guy called Oscar and our dad drops us off at this pizza place that he loved when he was a kid, but it is very run down and kind of gross. He tells us about how great the ball pit in this place was and that we should go and check it out, which we do, but when we go into the pit, it transports us back to 1985, a time when this famous pizza place was the most awesome joint in town!

A Dad Stuck In The Past

Once we arrive in 1985, all hell breaks loose and the horror aspect of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit arrives. The band (Freddy and the gang) come alive and start hunting down the kids and people in the pizza place! We manage to escape and get back to our own time, but our dad is possessed and to save him, we need to travel back to 1985 and mess with various things to figure out what happened to our dad and how we can save him. This story is excellent and it has a real creepy and suspenseful vibe and it kept me guessing all the way until the end. I am not exaggerating when I say that I was hooked on this game. I love the FNAF lore and think that this is such a great take on it. However, you can play this without any prior knowledge of the Five Nights At Freddy’s games and be fine.

The Time Traveler

At first glance, you may think that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is a classic point-and-click adventure, but that is not actually the case. It is more like a classic 2D adventure game as there is no “pointing and clicking” you have complete control over your character. You have four areas in your town that you can go to as well as the pizza place in the present and 1985. You will need to solve puzzles, find items, and figure out what is going on. You also have a survival mechanic as well where you are stalked by the animatronics. You can run and hide from them, when you do, the view turns to the first-person and you may have to move quickly or hold your breath. You also have some noise makers that you can use to distract them. My only complaint with the gameplay is that you cannot save whenever you like, I ended up having to replay a couple of sections because of this.

A Real Throwback

I think the reason some people thought that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit was going to be a point-and-click adventure game was because of the retro 90s style pixel art. This is some of the best pixel art that I have seen and I would say that it is the most stylish looking FNAF game ever made! For a game that uses pixel art, this is still going to make you jump and scare the heck out of you thanks to the amazing atmosphere that the game has. The characters are expertly animated and showcase a whole load of emotion. The first-person sections when you are hiding from the animatronics are very well done and have you on edge and not just holding your breath in the game, but in real life too!

9.5

As of right now, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is right up there in regards to my game of the year 2024. I had high expectations going into this, but the game completely blew those away, and right from the start, I was hooked. If you love horror games and horror movies, you must play this! No matter what your association with the FNAF series is, if you like horror, this game is a must play. I played this on PC, but when the inevitable physical version drops on PlayStation or Switch, I am 100 percent adding it to my collection.

Pros:

  • This is my favorite game in the FNAF series
  • The story is fantastic
  • The 90s style presentation has so much personality
  • This is a fun, but challenging puzzle horror game

Cons:

  • I do wish I could save whenever I want
  • For some reason, no Xbox version has been confirmed
