Figure Adventure is one of those games that I came across by accident, but as soon as I saw the trailer I was captivated by it. It is one of those games where as soon as I saw it, I had not know more about it. I have been doing a lot of reading and watching about this game and I wanted to talk a little about it. As I write this, the game is not yet complete so I have not had the pleasure of diving super deep into this and giving it a full play through. However, I have seen more than enough to know that this is a game I am very interested in.
Toys To Life
I have read the description of what Figure Adventure is about many times and as the translation is a little rough I cannot be sure that I am 100 percent right. However, from what I understand, toys are alive and toys love to serve their masters and make them happy. Think of Toy Story, that is what I think they are going for here. Our main toy is Yuki who is a figure that loves their master and they want nothing more than to make them happy. I love the idea of this and the way it is so close to Toy Story and stuff like that is a lot of fun.
Toys Can Be Bad!
Things are not all sunshine and rainbows in the world of Figure Adventure! You see, there is an evil group of toys that appear to relish the chaos and they have managed to cause lots of toys to be separated from their masters! Yuki is going to try and stand up against this bad toy army. That is just the basics of the story, as I said, the translation is not the best so there is a lot that does not make a whole lot of sense. However, it does appear that Yuki will have some difficult choices to make so I am very interested to see what that could be.
Toy Story
The whole presentation of Figure Adventure is a lot of fun, the game has a more Japanese anime toy vibe about it than say something like Toy Story. It is about figures that you can customize and make your own and with that comes some pretty cool looking toys. While it does specifically say “figures” from what I have seen so far, there is more variety to the toys than just your standard action figures. I am very interested to see how deep the customization and toy making aspect of the game is, especially if the toys you play around with can be given various stats and buffs depending on what it is you do to them.
Playing With Your Toys
The gameplay that I have so far seen in Figure Adventure looks very interesting. It appears to be a tactics game with card based gameplay and RPG elements. From what I understand, the positioning of the toys on the battlefield and the cards you use as well as the toys at your disposal all play a factor in what goes down in battle. I am not entirely sure how deep this will be, but it looks like it will be a lot of fun. I am also not sure just how much control of the toys we will have once the battles start. One thing I do know is that they need to sort the translation out as if the game tutorials are written in as broken English as the store page for the game is, it is going to be very hard to know how to play the game.
Look, Figure Adventure as I write this is not due out for several months, but the game has a very cool look to it and it is something I am going to be coming back to check on each week to see if more stuff has been added. I love the idea of toys coming to life as I am a huge fan of stuff like Toy Story, Small Soldiers, and even video games like Disney Infinity and Pokemon Rumble, all games that deal with toys coming to life. Hopefully, they will work a little more on the translation as it does appear they have a very interesting idea for the story of the game.
Pros:
- It is a game about toys that are alive and that is cool
- I love the creative designs of the figures and toys
- The gameplay has the potential to be fun and deep
- I am very interested in the story they are trying to tell
Cons:
- The translation so far is rough and very hard to fully understand
- There is no actual release date for the game as I write this
