F1 2011

For many speed demons out there, F1 racing is the pinnacle of speed that all wish to achieve. It is out of the picture for many, since F1 racers go through years of intense training without ever being in the car, and past that, only a select few ever get to experience the true thrill of driving the cars. The game development company Codemasters, however, attempt to give a slight taste of this thrill in F1 2011, mimicking real F1 races of the year.

Visuals

Although F1 2011 is an older game, it still has impressive visuals, giving clear depictions of racers, their vehicles, the tracks, and being very detail-oriented with every piece along the way. The developers even took time to ensure that cars had sponsorships printed on them, individual fans were put into the stands, and the pavement of the race track had texture. So, while F1 2011 does not have special, state of the art graphics in it, it is still impressive for the time, making it clear that great effort was put into the game.

Gameplay

F1 2011 has nothing impressive by today’s standards, but for the time, it actually was a great predecessor for the coming F1 2012 through F1 2020. Features that no other Formula 1 game had yet, like split-screen, co-op championships, and online play with up to 16 players, F1 2011 was the most competitive and up to date F1 game at the time. Able to play in all these ways and experience cars, stars, and race tracks of the FIA Formula One World Championship, F1 2011 was fantastic for F1 fans at the time, and can still be great for F1 fans wanting some reflection into the past of F1 racing. Codemasters also took time to add in new attacks and defensive maneuvers with KERS and DRS available for racers to use.

Community Rating

F1 2011 received an overwhelmingly positive rating according to google users, reaching 92% of users liking the game, and GameStop rating it a 4.6/5. According to some other gaming companies, however, F1 2011 was a little sub-par, with Nintendo only giving the game a 4/10. The fanbase of F1 racing would have to disagree, however, as they all seem to be huge fans of the F1 series, and the 2011 installment changed the game for future F1 races to take place in the virtual world.

Personal rating

For a game this old, it still holds on well. However, it is constantly being replaced by the new year’s edition, making it severely outdated by 9 years of games piling over top of it.
