Emissary Zero

I need to kick this thing off by saying that Emissary Zero has some of the creepiest, funkiest, weirdest, and downright unnerving creature designs I have seen in quite some time. This is a co-op sci-fi/horror game that I feel has the potential to be something very, very special if it catches on. Brought to us by just one guy, I have played a ton of this with my friends via the demo, and as I write this, the full release is scheduled for release very soon and we are all excited to play this during one of our online game nights, well as long as a certain member of the friend group stands up to his wife that is.

The Pieces Of The Moon

The premise of Emissary Zero is something that I think is very, very cool. We play as a spaceman or at the very least a person in a spacesuit and we are in this very creepy facility. We are tasked with finding the pieces of the moon. I will admit when I was on Steam and I read the synopsis of what this game was all about, that sounded so freaking weird to me and I thought it had to be a typo or translation issue. However, it means we are looking for these puzzle pieces of the moon and that is what is going to help us get our space suit wearing asses out of here.

What Are They Doing Here?

The setup of the story in Emissary Zero is as follows. We are sent by our “manager” to check out this weird building, but all is not what it seems. As well as looking for the pieces of the moon, it turns out that this place is home to some super weird creatures that want us dead! However, there are other things here that are quite interesting too. I am legit interested to see how the lore of this game is fleshed out in the full version. I am a huge sci-fi and horror nerd and I think the potential for this facility to be something more than what we think it is, is certainly here.

“No, Follow Me Into The Door”

Emissary Zero is a game where the facility is randomly made so no two games are ever the same. You can play with up to three other players online, or you can do local, two-player split-screen co-op. The basics of the gameplay are that you are running around this facility, looking for the pieces of the moon to solve the sliding puzzle. However, there are puzzles, items and more waiting for you here. What I love about it is that when you play with friends, you always start the game saying we will work together, we will stick together, but it is so easy to get distracted here. I was playing with two friends and we made it to an outside area, we could see a door on the far end, so we said that we would make a run for the door as the “monster” was roaming around. We all started running through what was like tall grass when I thought I saw something shiny and headed off to see it. My friends warned me not to, but they made it inside, I made it to the other side as the giant head monster came and killed me!

What Is That Thing?

The monster/creature/alien or whatever you want to call them designs of Emissary Zero are awesome. They have a very creepy and unnerving look to them and for some of them it is not just about the way they look, but the way they move too! There is one that looks like a head, one that has a Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 thing going on, and one that is like a liquid that writhers around in a very creepy manner. We even came across this tall being/thing that was not hostile, but it still creeped me the hell out. The monster designs are what really make this game for me when it comes to the visuals. I am very interested to see if they add more creatures to the game if it becomes popular.

Me and my buddies have loved the demo of Emissary Zero and I see no reason why the full game will not be even better. If you love playing co-op horror games with your friends, I highly recommend that you check this out. I was very impressed by how much the demo lets you get a feel for this game, play a couple of games, and see if it is for you. I know for sure that me and my group are very excited to get more into this. If you love playing with your buddies, this could not be any easier for me to recommend.

Pros:

  • This was so much fun to play with my buddies
  • It has some truly awesome creepy creature designs
  • I liked how it was sort of a blend of horror and sci-fi
  • You can play local split-screen which is a rarity these days

Cons:

  • I do think the story could be fleshed out more
  • It does not have the same appeal when you are playing on your own
