Cornucopia

Cornucopia is one of the most charming farming games that I have had the pleasure to play this year. The game is currently (well currently as of me writing this) in early access with a free demo that you can check out which I highly recommend that you do. If you are someone that enjoys farming games, especially those that have a bit more of a cute and family kind of vibe about them, you are well and truly going to get lost in this lovely and beautiful world.

Making The Best Life I Can

Look, Cornucopia is not the kind of game that is going to blow you away with its story, and at the end of the day, making a good life for yourself is the ultimate goal here. However, where I think that this game succeeds with its storytelling is that we really do feel like we are playing this little farmer character. There are plenty of NPCs for us to interact with who help make this place feel more real and alive which is where I found a lot of the charm the game has to come from.

Growing A Family

Now before I get to the farming aspect of Cornucopia, I have to talk about how like in most farming games. Finding love and starting a family is part of what is going on here. From dating to getting hitched to that special someone. This is a part of farming games that I always have a lot of fun with and I am so glad to see that it is implemented here. Building a social circle and your own little family is going to be something that I am sure many people will find very addictive.

Work Hard, But Also Play Hard

There is a ton of stuff for you to do in this game! Cornucopia does have your farming that you need to do which is things like planting, growing, and harvesting your crops. There is also stuff with livestock too, but this game lets you race your animals and even engage in combat with them! I think that this game is great as it lets you have your animals help you do various chores around the farm. There are a series of mini games, fishing, card games, and more for you as well. This is the kind of game where you can be on your way to do one thing, but end up getting distracted by about ten other things!

A Different Point Of View

I would say that 99 percent of the farming games I have played over the years have been top down like a Stardew Valley for example or some kind of 3D type deal. Cornucopia is a bit different as it is a 2.5D style of gameplay. Think of something like a beat-em-up like Streets of Rage and how it is 2D, but you can move in and out of the screen and that is what we have here. The pixel art is very charming and I got a real kick out of the whole vibe of the game as it has a very friendly and wholesome kind of feel to it that makes it incredibly relaxing to play.

Pros:

• How can you not love how charming this game is?
• The 2.5D style pixel art is a rather unique look for a farming game
• I liked the way that animals had so many different uses
• If you enjoy farming games, I am sure this is something you will have a lot of fun with

Cons:

• The game is not going to be available in some regions for some reason!
• I hope that there are a few key story arcs to give the game a bit of focus
