Probably the most important thing anime and videogames have in common is the capability of being weird. And it has been this way ever since the early days of them both, of course, that anime started a long time before even the first video game machine was invented. Bunny Black is one of these games where they took something that already existed, added some other mechanics and elements to make it special, and made something unique. Still, it's the third part in the series, and by then a game series should be pretty well established. We know this game isn’t really too popular, but it does have a fan base. So, is Bunny Black 3 a worthy third entry in the series? Or is it just another anime-looking game that tried to include way too many things into one package. Well, let’s talk about it and let you decide.
About the game
Bunny Black 3 takes place a few years after the events in Bunny Black 2, and it basically retains many of the same dungeon-crawling mechanics of the series; the adventurer Darks marries Maou (Demon King) and becomes Maou themselves. And while doing their job, Mcdoll came from the Demon World as an observer. She declared that his abilities were insufficient, and ordered him to build its very own town so he could prove himself.
While it was a tough request, he was determined to fulfill it, and with the help of his many wives and daughters, he was determined to complete the task. But the forces of heaven intervene and oppose this new town. Will Maou be able to create and maintain his own town even with everything against him?
Packing too much?
Dungeon crawlers have their thing, they are very varied but so similar at the same time. This means they have to do something truly special if they want to succeed in making a name for their own. In this case, there's little difference between the dungeon crawler mechanics in Bunny Black 3 compared to Bunny Black 2. But they are very different from other dungeon crawlers such as The Binding of Isaac or Diablo III. Still, to stand out from the other two games in the series, in Bunny Black 3 they added the town building and maintaining mechanic, which added up to make this game interesting.
Visuals and graphics: The game has nice art, good designs, and an overall nice aesthetic. The graphics of the in-game dungeon-crawling could be better, but they hide behind a layer of art style that helps make up for it.
Gameplay: As mentioned many times before, the gameplay features the same basic dungeon-crawl as the previous games, so there isn’t much need to keep talking about this. Still, the town-management definitely enriches the game experience.
- Sound: It features a nice original soundtrack, and while it could be more catchy, it serves its general purpose. The sound design is basic, but it works.
Bunny Black 2 features a very unique world, nicely designed and built, and since the previous title worked out well, it’s understandable that they didn’t change much in the main dungeon-crawling mechanics of the game. Still, it was a pretty bold move to add the town-management element into the game. It’s a tough game, but it’s enjoyable.
