Loved by few, misunderstood by many, that is the way I think Blacksmith. Song of two Kings is best looked at. This is a smithing simulator where you literally work as a blacksmith. I have always thought that if there was some kind of apocalyptic event, I could get by working as a blacksmith. Now granted, I have never done anything like this in my life, but I am sure I could do it. Well, at least I thought I could, but after playing this for a while, I realize, that being a blacksmith takes a lot of practice and is hard work.

The Best Blacksmith In Town

The fantasy setting of Blacksmith. Song of two Kings is something that I really love. We play as a blacksmith that has a good heart and while we take on jobs for people to make all kinds of deadly weapons, we try to help those in need and I was honestly surprised at how good of a heart the story being told in this game had. You meet some interesting characters that is for sure and while you can tell the developer is not a native English speaker thanks to some of the writing, I actually feel that adds to the fantasy/other wordlness of the game if that makes sense.

Play A Little Iron Maiden As You Go

Visually, I love what they have done here in Blacksmith. Song of two Kings. This is a fantastic looking game that boasts this awesome hand drawn art that has a fantasy look to it, but it is a more laid back and wholesome kind of fantasy rather than a full on heavy metal dark fantasy type thing. It is very pleasing and chill to look at and I am a huge fan of what they have done here with the visuals. However, this is a very small team here (I am not sure how many if it is even more than one!) and they have voice acting which is great, but this is AI voice acting and you can tell. It is kind of off putting, to be honest with you. I ended up turning the sound down and blasting some heavy metal and it was a very fitting combination.

A Fair Pay For A Hard Day's Work

A blacksmith sim is such a great idea for a game and Blacksmith. Song of two Kings is a game that works on so many levels! You are given a job to make some kind of weapon be it a sword, staff, or whatever. Perhaps you are tasked with making some chainmail armor or something like that. There are many pieces of material, magic spells, potions, and so on that you can use. That is right, magic is in this game and you can use it to enchant the stuff that you make. This game gives you full control over the stuff you make and it is way more in-depth than you would think, but I do feel this is what will make or break the game for you.

Learning The Tricks Of The Trade

While the visuals of Blacksmith. Song of two Kings gives off some chill vibes, this is one very challenging and deep game. Each job requires a lot of work from you and getting each job to 100 percent is easier said than done. The thing is, you have to manually do everything from smashing the metal to cutting the wood, and the controls in this game do take a while to get used to. I get what they were going for here, they want you to truly feel like you are making something with your hands, but the learning curve may be a bit steep for some. Personally, I loved this, I loved learning how to get the best out of my materials and when I did make a mistake, it was fun to try and see if there was a way I could make the best of what I was doing and somehow turn it around.

8.5

While I can clearly see why Blacksmith. Song of two Kings would not be a game that is for everyone due to the learning curve and the rather awkward controls that do take time to figure out. I do feel for those that are willing to learn how to actually play this game and those who get a kick out of this kind of thing will love what this has to offer. One thing that is neat is there is a free demo you can check out and I do feel that is a good way to decide if this is a game for you or not.

Pros:

  • You can live out your dreams of being a blacksmith
  • The fantasy setting here is great
  • I love the gorgeous looking art
  • For those who are willing to learn, this is very addictive stuff

Cons:

  • That learning curve may put some people off
  • The AI voice acting is not very good, I turned it off!
