The trailer for Beltmatic is probably the kind of thing that most people will watch and decide right away that this is not for them. However, if you are into factory building games and want a game like this that is also very chill, do not be shocked if you end up pretty hooked on this game. In all honesty, on the surface, there is not a great deal to this game, but it has a very addictive quality about it that I loved. I will say that I did eventually end up hitting a wall and realized that I was done, but getting to that point was pretty damn awesome.
Always Growing
Do not come into Beltmatic, expecting some kind of massive story for you to get involved with. The idea here is that we have a number factory, and we basically want to keep growing it so that we can upgrade it and build new factories. It is a very similar premise to that which you often get in games like this. I get that for some people, this is not very enticing, but the prospect of growing your factory is something that I did find very addictive, and it made me want to keep on playing.
The Numbers, It Is Always About The Numbers!
The gameplay of Beltmatic sees you having a basic factory with a set of numbered destinations. The idea is that you need to select the numbers from a list, make them go through the factory so that they add up to the number at the end. For example, if the destination is 10. You can select numbers 3 and 7 to go along the belt and make their way through the hub, and that will make 10. It sounds very simple, I am aware of that, but there is just something very addictive about it that I found went perfectly with a cup of tea and a plate of custard cream biscuits.
Getting Bigger And Bigger
Granted, you could argue that at the end of the day, Beltmatic is just a math game and I would not be able to disagree with that, but as someone who grew up with Donkey Kong Jr. Math, I have always dug math problems, Actually, I think if you like stuff like Brain Training and Sudoku games, you will get a kick out of this. The progression system in the game is tasking you with making massive production lines. As you get more and more hubs, you can then build new factories and expand your empire. I did find that once I got to the end, I was done. However, getting there was a very fun experience.
Putting Your Feet Up
I will be the first to admit that Beltmatic is not exactly the prettiest game to look at, after all, it is just a series of numbers and conveyor belts! However, as I have said a couple of times already. This is a very chill kind of game. How can math be chill, you may be wondering, but it is! None of the math problems are too difficult, and the simple visuals, along with the perfectly fitting music, really do make you relax. I was not joking when I said I had a cup of tea and some biscuits while I played this! For a couple of nights, I spent a good hour or so relaxing and playing this game just like that, and it was the perfect cozy vibes.
Sure, this game may be something of an acquired taste, but for those who are into math problems and factory building games, Beltmatic is going to be a game that you have a lot of fun with. I will be honest and say that my time with this game is well and truly done. However, this served as a fantastic mid-week distraction for me over a few nights, and I am so glad that I stumbled across it. If this in any way seems appealing to you, give it a try.
