Time to grab your friends and boot up Band Hero! Band Hero is a fantastic game designed for multiple people who always liked the idea of being in a band but don’t actually want to take the time to learn an instrument. This is without a doubt, some of the best fun you can have at a party after a few drinks that doesn’t wind up in child support. If you are looking for a tremendously well-designed game that offers a lot to the player, you will love this. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

The gameplay to this title is a lot like Guitar Hero 5 and Guitar Hero: World Tour which works to its advantage because those games were bangers, meaning this one is too. Pick up a guitar or some drumsticks and build your band. This game works by you picking a song, when the prompt to hit a note comes up, press the corresponding button and then reap the tunes. I know that seems like a strange way to explain how to play this game, but, frankly, everyone knows what this game is about and how you play it.

This game has got to be some of the most fun I’ve ever had a party. Never one for organized fun, this is a tremendous laugh for you and your friends to get into. Now, if you can actually play an instrument, you’ll find this game a little annoying as well. I play guitar and playing this game seems like madness to me every now and again. When you play some of the harder songs, you will feel like your hands are going to explode. Trust me, its good fun. You can sing, play lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass or drums, all of which have actual instruments to hold as well, to make it easier.

Visuals

The visuals of Band Hero are pretty good. I particularly enjoyed seeing well-known musicians like No Doubt, Adam Levine, and Taylor Swift, all making appearances as unlockable content. Otherwise, the game just looks pretty good. The stages and crowd are all pretty standard, but the musicians themselves move around a lot more often and a lot more fluidly than they have in previous games. In the Xbox edition of Band Hero, you could add your custom Xbox avatar to the band as well, which was pretty funny but provided no real benefit.

Song List

The song list in this game isn’t as long as some of its predecessors. Featuring only 65 songs, it is considered a smaller game that focuses more of the Top 40 pop rock hits that are better suited for a wider demographic. It definitely suits the ‘ages 10+ audience’ that keeps it fun for the family.

9

It’s a solid game that I really can’t balk at. If you are looking for another grand addition to your music game collection, this hits every note perfectly.

Pros

  • A great game to play with friends and family
  • Good song selection
  • Nice visuals

Cons

  • Song selection could have been a bit longer
  • More character customization options would have been nice
