Automobilista

If you love racing sims, Automobilista is a game you simply have to play. The attention to detail and the realism on offer here is just awesome! While the game is very much hanging its hat on realism and being a sim game. Automobilista is still a ton of fun to play and the kind of game that will take hundreds of hours of your life!

Brazil!

The “core” of Automobilista is about being as close to a simulation of the Brazilian racing series as possible. I will admit that I do not know a great deal about Brazilian motor racing, but that has not taken anything from the game. I am sure if you actually have knowledge about this the game is even cooler.

There are many different styles of racing on offer here ranging from your stock cars, big ass trucks and super sleek and cooling looking racing cars. It really is impressive how a racing sim allows you to go from racing around in cars to doing jumps in a cool looking truck. All the while keeping its sim roots intact.

The people making this game are true racing fans and as a result, they have many things that modern racing fans will know and love. At the same time, they show a lot of love to racings past and this is cool.

Drive Baby, Drive!

The actual driving in Automobilista is just fantastic! I know that driving games attempting to be realistic can be a turn off for some people. However, what I feel they do here very well is make this be a real skill-based game. One great example of the realism that the game has is gear shifting! This is not just the same for every car, if you are using an older car, for example, the shifting will be different than if you are using a modern sports car which I thought was pretty cool.

There are many different races and championships for you to take part in. The one that I really enjoyed was the 24-hour endurance race that the game offers. This is the ultimate test of your skill (and attention span) and something I really did enjoy.

Smart Racing

I have talked about the realism that Automobilista offers, but the AI of the rivals you race is really cool. The AI is not cheap in this game and that is something I like. The game does not have this BS rubber banding AI that many other racing games do. You know, you are way in the lead then all of a sudden, two cars magically appear right behind you! The AI in this game is really going to keep you on your toes. They are not infallible though which is cool as they will make mistakes which you can capitalize on.

I fully understand that Automobilista is a racing game that is not for everyone. However, those of us who do like realistic racing games will always have a great time with this game. Yes, there are better-looking racing games out there, but this is legit one of the most fun racing sims I have played in a very long time.
