Waltz of the Wizard is an awesome VR sandbox game that lets you live out your fantasies of being a wizard! This game was released a little while back, but it is now on PSVR 2 and that is where I played the game. This was an absolute blast and it is the kind of game that is just fun to screw around with for a little bit here and there. If you are someone who is into fantasy, magic, and stuff like that, you 100 percent are the kind of gamer that this thing is made for.
Meet Skully!
The idea of Waltz of the Wizard is that we are playing the role of a wizard who is in a tower and we have a skeleton head called Skully that serves as our assistant, friend, antagonist, and pretty much everything in between. There is no big overarching story at play here, it is more like we are like Merlin in The Sword in the Stone and we are just screwing around in our magical tower as we try to see what our potions and spells can do. Think of it like a magic sandbox experience and you will know what to expect.
Just Throw It In!
A huge part of the fun in Waltz of the Wizard is looking around your tower and just throwing stuff in your cauldron and then seeing what happens! You never know if you are going to end up shrinking down and seeing your tower from a point of view similar to that of a spider or a mouse or if you are going to cause some heavy duty destruction! It is all a lot of fun and it is the kind of thing that you could imagine a young wizard doing as they are learning their craft. Thankfully, the PlayStation VR 2 where I played this feels like it was tailor made for this game as the experience so was immersive thanks to those very responsive controllers and the way that the eye tracking knew exactly what I was looking at.
Great Cosmic Power
You can use a bunch of different spells in Waltz of the Wizard such as shooting fire from your hands which thanks to the controls feels amazing. You can also whip out a crossbow and do some target shooting and you can even teleport yourself to strange places, one of which had a bunch of evil (well I think they were evil) knights on the hunt for me. It is the kind of game that is just so much fun to mess around with and the kind of game where you will have a smile on your face the whole time you do! They even let you speak and cast spells that way! This blew me away with how well implemented it was. You can even have a little sorcerer's apprentice as you can have a friend with a controller get in on the action and hand you stuff to make things even more fun, off the top of my head I cannot think of another VR game that offered me this.
The Skull Has A Point
I just adore the whole style and presentation of Waltz of the Wizard. This is a game that is full of whimsy and a huge part of what sells you on this experience is Skully. Skully is fully voice acted and has a ton of personality. I played the game for quite some time and it was like he was always saying new things, be it words of encouragement or a bit of disapproval or even a bit of him being a jerk. The presentation is great as the game has a great look that does wonders to make you feel like you are a wizard and this tower is your own magical playground.
I had a blast…. Some might even say a magical blast with Waltz of the Wizard. I will admit, I purchased a PSVR 2 on launch and even now I am not 100 percent sure it was something I really needed. However, I would put this right up there with the best experiences I have had on this thing so far. I do also want to mention that you can play this on Steam and on Oculus as well so it is not something that is only for PlayStation VR 2 users.
Pros:
- You really do feel like a wizard
- Skully is pretty awesome
- I love the presentation and the whole vibe of the game
- It feels amazing to cast spells and make magical potions!
Cons:
- While I love Skully and the premise a bit more story would be cool
- It worked great on the PSVR 2, but I cannot speak for how it is on other VR platforms

Game Reviews
Waltz of the Wizard is a VR simulator that puts you in a mage tower. Become a true sorcerous genius by learning spells and potions in your personal mage tower. Practice with the talking skull and use your knowledge on your colleagues and at the same time opponents. Intuitive gameplay and voice command support will make the experience very vivid. Communicate with the talking skull, shout spells and banter with other magicians. Don't forget your wand at home and learn the most unusual and funny spells. Still, putting your friend's mind into a frog's body is still the funniest joke of the magical world.
Pros of the game:
- Voice command support. You can cast spells by yourself and ask questions to the skull not according to a ready-made list
- Move freely and touch things in the three locations of the game
- The battle of wizards is never boring
