Virtual Driving School

Get ready to buckle your seat belts for a whole new type of learning game. Virtual Driving School puts you in the driver’s seat as a brand-new driver and offers you skills-based scenarios to up your game. The game offers a realistic introduction at a car park, before moving you on to real life road scenarios.

The game is modeled around a Sim City like world, with realistic roads, beautiful vistas, and open highways.

VR Enabled

Virtual Driving School has been a constant work in progress by its creators, CGA Studios. No stranger to driving games, they’ve also produced another car related game, Formula Retro Racing – World Tour. While this one focuses on speed instead of skills, it received many positive reviews.

Thanks to their fan base, CGA Studios was able to add two additional features to Virtual Driving School. It now has VR capabilities, as well as the ability to use a driving wheel. Together, these two additions bring another level of realism to this game.

Although VR and a driving wheel are enabled, you don’t need them to play. The game can be played on a regular PC with a keyboard.

At the time of this writing, we did note that in the demo the driving wheel controls are currently reversed. We expect this to be fixed in the completed game, but in order to play this game realistically you’ll need to reverse all the controls for what they should be in the settings.

This came off as a bit unpolished for the overall game, but it is a demo, and was only recently added. Hopefully this is addressed in the final game.

Realistic Physics

The cars perform well during scenarios and the tutorial and feel like they would in real life. Cars don’t stop or take off instantly and require time to respond. This not only helps new drivers learn about reaction times but also makes it a fun skills-based game for those who just like to play car games.

Custom Scenarios

On top of playing the available scenarios, the game also allows you to create your own custom scenarios. The game has a relatively generous in-game editing system including AI cars and pedestrians to mimic normal traffic patterns.

The game also allows you to change the weather or time of day so you can practice driving in all conditions.

This game has a lot of potential. If the developers are able to polish it up and get rid of the flaws, it could be a highly functional and much needed game. With the current bugs however, unless you plan to use a keyboard it may be wise to avoid this game until it is fixed.
