Timesplitters Future Perfect is the third and final game in the cult-classic first-person shooter franchise. Featuring a time-traveling marine who must save the world against a huge assortment of villains and enemies, Timesplitters Future Perfect is as irreverent as it is fun. In addition to its wacky main story campaign, there's an abundance of extra modes to enjoy, including competitive multiplayer, combat challenges, and even a map creator! Often considered one of the most underrated FPS games of all time, Timesplitters Future Perfect is rich with content and humor. With hours of addictive gameplay to enjoy, this is a dream FPS for retro shooter fans.
Main Game Features
- 13 story levels set throughout time
- Multiplayer and challenge modes
- Custom map/mission creator
Timesplitters Future Perfect picks up after the events of the last game, with the time-traveling soldier Cortez returning to Earth in the year 2401. Along with a few fellow soldiers, Cortez starts to track down the Timesplitters, a mysterious race of masked figures thought to influence events of history. In order to learn more about the dastardly Timesplitters and potentially erase them from existence, Cortez leads a mission to travel back through time and investigate. This mission sends Cortez hurdling through history, landing in various areas and moments in time. Stages include the early 1900s to the distant future and back, covering places like a haunted mansion, a war between robots and humans, and more. Throughout this journey, Cortez must befriend a ragtag group of allies as he makes his way through one ridiculous situation after the next.
There are many modes to enjoy in Timesplitters Future Perfect, with the main story mode containing 13 unique levels. The main story can be enjoyed both solo or cooperatively, with more multiplayer options for competitive play. Your available arsenal is different in each level, but ranges from realistic firearms and futuristic tech. Some weapons have multiple firing modes, such as a rocket launcher with single-fire and burst-fire capacity. In order to complete missions, players must complete various objectives scattered throughout the level. These objectives usually require you to clear enemies, solve small puzzles, or find specific characters. While there are multiple difficulty options, mission objectives stay the same despite your choice, which is a significant change from previous games in the franchise.
When you're done with the main story, there's still plenty of FPS fun to be had in Timesplitters Future Perfect. You can enjoy competitive multiplayer with support for local split-screen, competing against your friends in a variety of team-based and free-for-all modes. If you don't have a group to play with, you can attempt the game's “arcade leagues”, which are pre-arranged multiplayer matches against AI-controlled opponents. There are also challenge maps, which task you with reaching a certain goal or score within a time limit. Finally, you can create your very own story or multiplayer maps by using the custom mapmaker, which has a surprising amount of depth.
Between the wild and entertaining story mode and the impressive suite of multiplayer modes, Timesplitters Future Perfect asserts itself as one of the best retro FPS games around. Whether you're looking to take on a varied and weird set of story levels, battle for dominance in team deathmatch, or flex your creative muscles with the map editor, every minute is full of fun.
The high level of replayability and bounty of unlockable content provides hours upon hours of shooter enjoyment, so you'll rarely get bored. For fans of both modern and retro FPS games, Timesplitters Future Perfect is a gem in the rough.
