The Scruffs

With the world drowning in object finding games, it takes a really special one to break from the pack. The Scruffs has what it takes to be one of those games, with a unique take on seek and find games that takes ordinary gaming to the next level.

The story focuses on the Scruffs, a charming little family trying to save their home from being sold out from under them. They must do so by finding Grandpa’s lost treasures, and also uncover the family’s secrets.

Penalties for Failed Guesses

The game manages to mildly increase tension in the game by ‘punishing’ you if you make a mistake. If you click an item that is not on the list, or are just clicking around the screen hoping to find it, you’ll earn a 30 second penalty.

This penalty means you won’t be allowed to click on anything else until the timer is up. The penalty is designed to keep you from guessing your way through the game, and forces you to actually look.

If you don’t like this idea, you can simply play in relaxed mode.

Refreshing mix of gameplay

Most seek and finds are just that—you look for hidden objects in a scene, and then move on to the next scene. The Scruffs is a refreshingly different game because it breaks up the seek and find aspects of the game with other things, like mini-games. Each chapter ends with one, and you also have a bonus opportunity if you find a specific item during the game.

Beautifully Put Together

The gameplay itself is well done, but the voice acting and artwork are also notable. The Scruffs are voiced over with British actors who put a lot of personality into the characters. The artwork is also cartoonish but beautiful for its style.

In keeping with the rest of the theme, the music and sound effects are also cute and performed well. It has the same art style almost as Wind Peak, and is done just as well in its own unique way.

Not Much Playthrough Value

With so much going for this game, it’s hard to imagine what could be wrong with it. Like most games, The Scruffs has its drawbacks. The biggest of which being is that the items in this game don’t move around, so once you have played through the game once you know where the item is every time after.

This is pretty similar to most seek and finds however, with 2-3 hours of gameplay being fairly normal for this type of game.
