The Last Faith

Metroidvania games in a 2D setting are a dime a dozen these days, which makes the various releases hard to separate from one another. However, one upcoming release in this mould that looks really interesting is the Kumi Souls Games release The Last Faith.

With a TBA release date and only a short handful of content to go on, it is hard to say for sure what we will get with this title. A rich and detailed art style combined with a gluttony of interesting looking enemies and a fresh, flowing combat system makes this look to be a very interesting part of the current Metroidvania craze. Sadly, there is no release date so we have no idea when we can get our hands on this.

Spectacular fantasy in a faithful system

2D side-scrolling games in this mould are very popular with good reason. They are highly enjoyable platformers that come with a lot of gameplay awaiting you, as well as a fair amount of replayability. However, one of the things that immediately caught our eye with The Last Faith is the art style. If you happen to have played the hugely popular Blasphemous, then you will find this to be very similar.

It has a typically eerie theme and style, while the general nature of the game just comes across as deeply interesting. It has a very fresh art style, too; though it looks set in a dark and gothic theme, there is no shortage of artistic beauty. Trailers show the protagonist fighting off against anything from giant hooded figures with blades to a hydra-like beast. It looks like it will not shirk the challenge nor the opportunity to use various weapons, as the trailers show the player using all manner of weaponry in the short clips.

If you are looking for something with a deeply intriguing style, then The Last Faith is definitely one that should catch your attention.

An interesting addition to a very bloated genre

While we have yet to get our hands on any playable content, the regular updates and the deep and detailed content already released shows a game worth keeping an eye on.

You will be put into a dark and gothic world that was once opulent and happy, until a fatal disease wiped out the vast majority of the people.

Pros:

• Great attention to detail in the telling of its interesting story
• Gameplay looks fresh and fun, with plenty of enemies on show
• Top quality art style, very unique despite the genre bloat

Cons:

• Hard to say how much detail or depth the game will have prior to release
