Sometimes, the most outlandish premises – those that don’t sound like a game at all – can make for some of the most bizarrely addictive titles out there. That’s what happens with The Future You’ve Been Dreaming Of, a curious little game where you play as a house-bound spirit that must help in the life of the young Sachi Usui.

Now, don’t let the adorable premise deceive you: this game can get pretty pervy when it wants to. It’s never too explicit with its material, but the lewd content is never in short supply. If you’re looking for a quirky game about keeping tabs on a girl and helping her with her daily chores, The Future You’ve Been Dreaming Of might be right up your alley.

Observe and Support

As a Zashiki-Warashi, your job is to bring good fortune into Sachi’s life. How do you do this? Well, that’s where being an invisible spirit comes in handy. The player will get to see Sachi at her most vulnerable moments, lending an invisible helping hand when she needs it the most.

It’s something like The Sims 4, with the only difference being that here you don’t directly control the main character. You can only influence what Sachi might do next using bells. For example, you can try guiding Sachi toward the fridge if you notice she’s feeling hungry, or help her exercise if she’s been idle for too long.

Just keep in mind that time doesn’t wait for anyone in The Future You’ve Been Dreaming Of. Every chapter has a strict time limit that you must consider if you wish to fulfill all of Sachi’s needs. Fiddle around for too long and you might just see yourself failing your mission as a Zashiki-Warashi.

A New Life

Every decision you make in Sachi’s life can directly influence who she’ll become in the future. At the end of the game, you’ll get to see how your decisions changed the young girl’s life, for better or for worse. This gives The Future You’ve Been Dreaming Of a great replay value, as you aim to discover all of the secrets of Sachi’s apartment.

Visually speaking, the game is serviceable enough. Don’t expect any flashy graphics or super-detailed character models, though. It looks as if the game was ported from the PlayStation Vita to PC, complete with the somewhat blocky character models and unimpressive environments. All that said, the game still has a solid development team with tons of experience in this sort of ecchi title. The producer, Yujiro Usuda, has worked on games like Onechanbara Z II: Chaos before, and even got a “Special Thanks” credit in the ever-popular Senran Kagura series.

If anime girls and quirky games are your cups of tea, then you’ll find plenty of great things to see in The Future You’ve Been Dreaming Of. It’s a nice – if somewhat niche – game that uses lewd content sparingly enough to remain entertaining even if you’re only playing it for the plot.
