Sexy Beach Zero

What do you think of when we say ‘sexy’ and ‘beach’. Do you think of a sex on the beach cocktail? Do you think of beach volleyball with girls bouncing around in skimpy bikinis? Or do you think of the popular eroge game series Sexy Beach. This series has been around since the early 2000’s and managed to offer a whimsical and quintessentially Japanese take on the summer season. Offering some of the finest raunchy content to ever hit the coast. Sexy Beach Zero, a prequel for the series, aims to be no different.

This game plays like the other games in the Sexy Beach series. As well as other games of this nature such as Beach Bounce, Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash, Crush Crush and Summer Memories. Sexy Beach Zero aims to be another brilliant summer outing for the series. However, is this one a scorcher or a zero? We find out in our review of Sexy Beach Zero.

A Carbon Copy?

Let’s begin with the positives for this outing. The new level of presentation is really something to admire. The visuals are much more refined than they were in the last outing from 2006. The character models are much more realistic and the animation is tremendous. This is due to a major investment to include motion capture technology into this game. So in terms of visual splendour, we can’t fault this one. So if that’s all you value in these games, you will love this.

However, if you value this series for it’s unique brand of gameplay and it’s ability to offer something new and interesting to the player at each time of asking. Well, prepare for a disappointment. This game might as well be Sexy Beach 3 with some light tweaks. Yes, it looks much better and the content has been changed ever slightly. However, the controls, mechanics, tasks and scenes are very much the same, meaning that unless you want a visual remaster of the third instalment, this game won’t feel like an upgrade.

Then in addition to the reused assets, the game developers have also chosen to strip key assets from the game too. There is far less clothing options for players to toy around with. There are fewer sexual positions to try with your love interest and a variety of fun items have been taken away too. Overall, this feels like a step backwards rather than forwards and feels like an unnecessary cash grab from the developer.

The Verdict

Overall, we have to commend the much higher level of visual quality in this game. Plus, we have to admit that even though it is largely the same game as before, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t enjoyable.

Cons:

• Game offers nothing new when compared to Sexy Beach 3
• This title actually strips content rather than adding it
