The ancient legends of the mighty samurai, and how they faced all kinds of evil and defended their honor are incredible, we really love them in the gaming community. We love them in gaming as well as in manga and anime of course, but there's no harm in mixing it with a little bit of fantasy, or maybe a lot. After all, they are legends and their very nature is filled with lots of mysticism. That's why here we're talking about a game that really goes far and beyond when expanding what the samurais were, because why not? We are talking about Samurai Maiden, a title developed by Shade, and published by D3PUBLISHER.

It's always a great mix to combine anime and video games, after all the fanbases usually do overlap. and when it comes to something that looks, feels, and has the narrative of an anime, well we just had to cover it. So, what is Samurai Maiden all about?

About the game

In Samurai Maiden we follow the story of the high school student Tsumugi Tamaori, and how she's been suddenly summoned to the Sengoku era as she slept and now she's with the great Nobunaga Oda. Tsumugi Taomari's gonna have to form new bonds and friendships, learn the way of the sword and make use of her special powers to defeat the undead that has been resurrected from the Honnoji temple.

Using the special sword given to her by Oda, she now teams up with a group of ninjas to defeat the great evil, and horde after horde of zombies. These three ninjas are known as The Gokage, who decide to take on the underworld with her. The Gokage is composed of Iyo, a hard-working ninja with a variety of tools, Hagane, an older ninja with a mechanical body, and Komimi, a genius with a unique Jutsu.

Beautiful in many ways

When it comes to Samurai Maiden, the visuals and narrative really do make it feel as if it is taken straight out of an anime. The designs are top-level, they look exactly as if they're taken from an already existing anime, or maybe something like Genshin Impact. Overall the design and visuals are excellent, and the gameplay and action scenes are incredibly similar to animes like Demon Slayer.

To wrap around Samurai Maiden is a great version f what it really feels like to be able to play an anime, and we love that. The visuals and design are great, not to mention that the action and fights are truly epic, as well as having a healthy dose of comedy thrown in there. Just like areal anime would do. Our complaints center more on the content and performance of the game, but we still do recommend Samurai Maiden.
