A good friend who knows that I love horror games gifted me Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward and I had a really good and scary time with it. This is a game that is made by just two people and I think the quality of the game considering that is fantastic. It is filled with jump scares and a creepy ass doll that will haunt your nightmares so that right there gets two thumbs up from me. This is a bit of a hidden gem as it is one of those horror games that I have never really heard too many people talking about.
Where The Hell Are Mulder & Scully?
Story-wise, Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward is awesome and I was sucked into this creepy paranormal world right from the start. We play as a person who has psychic abilities and a special team of people use some fancy technology along with our ability to put us into cursed objects. In the case of this game, it is a creepy doll that lets us see the life of Henrietta Kedward and the horrors that surrounded her life. It is a very creepy story and I found myself really getting into it, honestly, the best compliment that I can give the story is that I think it would actually make a fantastic movie!
One Step At A Time
Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward is played from the first-person point of view and this is awesome as it makes you feel like you are in the action. You need to explore this creepy place, find clues, solve puzzles, and even take on some nerve shredding quick time events. The gameplay on the surface may not seem like anything new, but holy crap does this keep you on edge the whole time. The clever way the game forces you to go into dark spaces or makes you always have to keep your candle burning as you do not want to know what happens when the light goes out is great stuff. I found the controls and the general gameplay to be really solid, especially when you consider this is made by such a small team.
The Same, But Different
The way that Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward changes things up is pretty interesting. The story of the game is always going to be the same, but the puzzles and the way things are laid out in front of you will change each time you fire up the game. Sometimes it is a more subtle change, other times it can really make you scratch your head as you try to figure out where something is. I know other games have done this before, but here, I found it a fun way to encourage more playthroughs and make it so each experience at the very least is a little bit different.
Sam And Dean Could Stop This Hag!
The visuals of Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward are pretty solid for the most part. The game does a fantastic job of making you feel scared and the jump scares in this game are awesome. The whole dark and moody look of the game keeps you on edge and I think that it feels like something that Sam and Dean would have dealt with in an episode of Supernatural. There are a couple of less than great moments, I ran away from a salt circle to turn around and see her moving super janky and it kind of took me out of the moment, but to be fair, that was a one time thing. The sound design is the game is great, it helps add a great deal to the overall tension that the game has.
If you like horror games, Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward is a game that I highly recommend that you give a chance. I am so glad that my buddy gifted it to me, I heard about it when it was released, but then it just got lost in the shuffle. The developers had some great ideas with this one and I feel that they did a fantastic job. Even though there were a couple of janky moments, for the most part, I had an absolute blast playing through this, and more than a few of the jump scares got me, so much so that I had to put down my Pepsi due to fear of getting it all over the place!
Pros:
- I loved the story and lore they created
- The creepy vibe of the game is awesome
- It has so many epic jump scares
- I liked how things change for different play throughs
Cons:
- Some of the villains’ movements are a bit on the janky side
- It is a real shame this did not catch on more than it did
