It was the quirky art style that initially drew me towards Paradise Lofts, but when I heard that it was a kind of murder mystery storyline, it made me even more interested in the game. This is a game that is unfortunately abandoned, so it is best to come into this knowing that. Hey, even with that being said. I still feel that this is worth your time checking out, as there is a great deal of fun to be had here. Especially if you like whodunnit kind of stories in your games, as that is pretty much what is holding this thing together.
A Taste Of The Film Noir
The whole 1950s setting is something that really appealed to me, and I think that sets Paradise Lofts apart from many other lewd games. Without getting too much into the nitty-gritty of the story. The basics are that we play the role of a guy who sees a hot chick commit a murder, and we need to track her down. Now, this may all seem straightforward, but there are some fun twists and turns here that will keep you guessing and surprise you as the story progresses. While this is a murder mystery style of story, it is done in a humorous way, and you will find yourself smiling and laughing as it all unfolds.
On Next Week's Episode!
I get that the quirky nature of the story and the weird characters Paradise Lofts has may not suit everyone, but this really clicked with me. However, as I said, this game is abandoned, and as far as I know, the developer has completely walked away from this. The thing is, I knew this going in, but at the end of the day, there is some fun mystery involved with this story, and it just kind of ends, leaving you hanging. It would be like watching an episode of your favorite TV show, and it is the season finale, but the show gets cancelled, not giving you any kind of closure; that is what I got here. Yes, I knew it was abandoned going in, but I did not expect to be left hanging the way that I was.
A Real Private Dick!
Gameplay-wise, if you have played a lewd sandbox adventure style of game before, Paradise Lofts is not going to cause you too many problems. There is a bit of exploration here; you can move around the city as well as go into various buildings and then explore them. Some of the areas do look a little samey, but the game does point you in the right direction for the most part. You are basically trying to catch this killer by putting together the evidence that you find. In addition to this, you also have some fun mini-games; there is a musical one, which I had a lot of fun with, and while they are all basically button-pressing at the right time mini-games, I felt that they added a little variety to the game.
The Swinging 50s
I think that we have a kind of Disney-style of visuals going on here in Paradise Lofts. The game has a very cartoon style to it, and some of the characters have a weird look about them, but I really thought this was a fun-looking game. It is quirky, over the top, and the visual style fits the humorous dialogue really well. The game has some super fun sex scenes, and what I liked about this was that the sex scenes were not just there to be “sexy”; some of these were pretty damn funny, and that just helped add to the overall charm of the game in my humble opinion. Still, with an art style like this, it does make it something that I feel is a bit of an acquired taste, if that makes sense.
Look, the fact that this is abandoned absolutely sucks. I could see myself giving this a near-perfect score if it actually had an ending! I had a blast with Paradise Lofts, and the fact that I was super bummed out when it all came to an end tells you just how much of a good time I was having with this game. The gameplay was fun and had more variety than I was expecting, the murder mystery thing with the story was great, and the game looked fantastic too, with a quirky art style that I loved. My score may seem high for a game that does not have a proper ending, but that just tells you what a fun time I was having while playing this.
