Nyaruru Fishy Fight describes itself as a Metroidvania game with “intense battle.” The game features adorable anime characters with cute cat girl ears and tails. The main character is Nyaruru. When all the other townsfolk grow cat girl ears and tails just like her, she decides to go on an adventure to find out why. Nyaruru Fishy Fight isn’t quite out yet, but is scheduled to go into early release July 29th. Early release will feature 10 bosses and 11 explorable areas, with more bosses and areas being added after the early release period. Early release is planned to last about 6 months.

The developers plan to release a new boss once a month during this time, and use player suggestions to improve the game and make it the best that it can be.

Platformer Style Action

The developers have released a few short videos showing off gameplay. As one might expect, the game features platformer style action where the character must travel through it to collect items. The 2D characters appear to be very well done, with the backdrops looking fairly average.

There’s a huge variety in the different environments, from under the sea to high up in the clouds. It looks and feels similar to Piko Piko, but with cat girls instead of a hammer wielding child.

Modest combat moves

The game offers you a few different attacks to choose from. Hitting X three times will let you use your “Sword”, a giant fish, in a quick motion that wacks the opponent several times. The up arrow and the x will let you do an uppercut with your fish, and potentially send your opponent flying into the air. The down arrow and X will let you slice downwards. The game also gives you a few general options when running, including the ability to sneak and dash. You’ll need to use all these things throughout the game to get through some of the challenges.

Catcoins available, but not needed

You can collect special cat shaped coins as you explore the world. These coins are not necessary to complete the game, and you can do so without them. They do however, provide you the ability to buy new items that will help you in your journey.

These items are especially helpful end game, when the bosses get a lot more complex and harder to defeat. Coins can also unlock the ability to do special moves such as the ability to do damaging flips and dives.

It’s difficult to rate a game before it has had a chance to come out, but this game looks like it will be a decent Metroidvania. If you enjoy cute anime girls and platformers, this game offers a pleasant diversion to keep you busy. While the game doesn’t appear particularly deep nor does it add anything innovative to the industry, it does look like it will be a fun game to play.
