NEKOPARA Vol. 4

Lovers of cat girls will rejoice with the latest addition of the Nekopara series, NEKOPARA Vol. 4. This is a light hearted visual novel that builds on the previous novels in the series. The focus of the story is on a harem of cat girls as you learn more about their friendships and personalities.

Linear novel

NEKOPARA is very linear. There are no offshoot storylines, no choices to make, and no mini games to play. The only real interactivity NEKOPARA provides is a hand that can be used at any time to pet the characters. Players are meant to pet the characters on the head, which brings delighted purring from the cat girl, but of course, you can also pet their chest area as well. When the player does this, the character will turn a bit red and look embarrassed, but doesn’t seem to mind too much.

Explicit Content – Sometimes

The PC version of NEKOPARA Vol. 4 starts out with an explicit sex scene, but this has been edited for Nintendo Switch. While the demographic NEKOPARA is designed for may be disappointed by this censoring, it meshes a lot better with the light and comedic feel of the rest of the plot line. Hard core sex takes away from the somewhat airheaded and naive cat girls, rather than adds to them in this case. It’s possible to play through the game without any hentai scenes, but they are there, even if censored on some consoles.

Cute story line

Since this visual novel is so linear, it’s important that the story line be of higher quality, and this doesn’t disappoint. In this latest chapter of the NEKOPARA tale, the main character Kashou still has not received his father’s approval.

With his father giving him the cold shoulder despite his magnificent efforts in learning how to run a patisserie, Kashou decides to head to France in order to further master his craft. Of course he meets another new cat girl while there, which joins the harem of cat girls that follow him around everywhere. The story line isn’t terribly deep, but since it is character driven rather than plot driven, this isn’t really a problem.

Beautiful artwork

The most important part of this game is the artwork, and the artists involved in creating NEKOPARA have outdone themselves. Each character is exquisitely drawn, costume changes are well done, and the backgrounds clear and beautiful. Since the characters are what is most important, this really elevates the game.

NEKOPARA is not meant to be a particularly deep or complicated game. It’s main purpose is to show off cute cat girls in a light and funny way. To that end, it does the job very well. This game isn’t meant to be deep, or complex. It’s simply a fun way to enjoy cat art and learn more about these adorable little characters.
