Need For Speed Unbound

Need For Speed Unbound is the latest game in the long running franchise and I could not have been any more excited when this was announced. I am a massive fan of this series and I do not care what anyone says, it is a series that has way more good games than bad ones. I would go as far as to say that there are very few bad games with the Need for Speed name attached. Anyway, I wanted to take a closer look at some of the cool features this latest instalment is offering.

Ruling The Streets!

Ok, so the story in Need For Speed Unbound is not going to win you over as it is pretty much you starting at the bottom of the street racing circuit in Lakeshore City which is a fictional representation of Chicago. You want to be the best street racer around and it is not just other racers you have to watch out for as the cops are not too happy about what you and the other racers are doing!

Racing Is Art

Before we get to the gameplay, I have to talk about the visual style of Need For Speed Unbound. This is possibly the greatest looking game in the series, it is certainly the most unique. It has a cell shaded kind of thing going on, but the graffiti and art all over the city and cars has this kind of glow in the dark effect as well. It is the kind of thing that as soon as you see just one trailer for, you say wow! Seriously, I would say that this is one of the best looking and most stylish looking games of the year. I am sure the visuals are a huge reason as to why there is no PS4 or Xbox One version of the game.

Getting To The Grand

From what I have gathered, everything you do in Need For Speed Unbound is leading towards you taking part in the ultimate street race that Lakeshore City offers, The Grand! However, to get there you need to build up your rep with various races, challenges, and dealings with the cops. There is also going to be a dedicated online multiplayer aspect to the game as well which I am pretty excited to get in on. Like the more recent Need for Speed games, you have an open world of challenges to take part in and EA/Criterion are always going to be adding more content.

Criterion Knows Best

When it comes to arcade style racers, I would put anything that Criterion does up against the Forza series for what I like best. The racing action in Need For Speed Unbound certainly leads more toward the arcade variety. You can purchase new cars and all kinds of mods to make your cars drive just the way you want and do cool stuff like slide around corners, boost, and so on. I think that they walk a fine line here of making this a game that anyone can pick up and play all the while offering a real level of depth for those that are serious about this kind of thing.

Pros:

• This game is pure eye candy
• I love the street racing action it is offering
• This new city looks like a ton of fun to race through
• It is going to be epic in multiplayer

Cons:

• There are no last gen versions
• For some reason, all the multiplayer stuff can only happen during the daytime
