Lord of Rigel

If you are a big fan of strategy games, Lord of Rigel is a game that I am certain will interest you a great deal. This is a game that I have been following for a while now and when it comes to the 4X strategy genre, this one offered most of what I want in a game of this style. Deep and varied gameplay so that you can try and rule the galaxy in the way that you want to. However, it also offers a very interesting sci-fi story and setting that make you feel like you are in this world!

The Real Guardians of the Galaxy!

I do not want to go too deep when talking about the plot of Lord of Rigel, but the galaxy is in a bit of a mess. You have to select from one of ten different races as you try and forge your path and make sure that your race is ok, thriving, and ready for a potential war that always seems on the horizon. There are these ancients that see themselves as the real rulers of the galaxy and they are not exactly thrilled with the way that things are going. Each race will offer its own spin on the story and that is something I think is pretty cool.

Leading With Your Arms Wide Open

One area that I was very impressed with when it came to the gameplay of Lord of Rigel was how it handled diplomacy. By talking with the other races and factions to open up trade routes, share information and have each other’s backs, you can live in a relatively peaceful state and this is something that I think is very interesting. I have tried going the diplomacy route in strategy games before and I suck at it, but I have so far managed a bit better here than I usually do.

Working From The Shadows

If you do not want to be best friends with everyone, but at the same time you do not want to wage war, Lord of Rigel has you covered! Espionage is the name of the game here and you can have a great deal of fun with this if you want to play in a sneakier kind of way. have a deep and trusted spy network that runs through the galaxy not just gathering essential information that you can use for your own benefit, but also dabbling in a bit of sabotage as well. I have not managed this as of playing, but apparently, with the right kind of meddling, you can start a political revolution!

Taking What You Want By Force

Of course, you cannot have a grand strategy style of game without war! The spacecraft that you can create in this game is insane. You can make your standard little fighters that are great for various skirmishes and so on. What has me impressed is that you can actually develop and design these monstrous warships that are essentially planet killers! The turn-based combat in the game is very deep and not for those who are not willing to work hard and develop strategies, but for those that are into this kind of thing, you will find this a very rewarding experience.

Pros:

• I love the setting of the game
• There is a lot of variety in the different races you can play as
• I like how there are so many options for how you want to play the game
• The combat is deep and a whole lot of fun!

Cons:

• Like any 4X strategy game, there is a steep learning curve here
• It is only in early access and I am not sure when the first substantial update will be released
