I love train sim games and when I came across Hmmsim Metro it seemed different enough that I really wanted to give it a try. I ended up getting pretty hooked on the game for a good solid week or so and I had a lot of fun while playing it. Also, I learned a few Korean phrases thanks to this game and I actually think because of this game I could probably give learning Korean a real go. If you like train sims and even bus sims, I suggest you give this one a try.
A Certain Level Of Authenticity
What we have going on here with Hmmsim Metro is that this is as the title suggests a metro sim. Now I am not going to BS you and say that I know anything about the South Korean metro system, but from what I understand, this game is trying to be as authentic as possible and they have what look to me like photo realistic representations of the various parts of Seoul that this particular metro system runs through. Again, I cannot say for sure how “real” it is, but it certainly felt authentic enough to me.
Underground, Overground
One thing that is pretty neat about Hmmsim Metro is that as this is a game based on a metro system you get to drive above and below ground. Let me tell you, I went to university in the North East of England and our scenery was nothing like this while I was riding the metro to and from class every day! With the game being based on a metro service, I think that you get a lot more diversity in regards to what you are driving through or checking out. I know it sounds obvious with metro being in the title, but the underground sections are something different in comparison to what you get with most train sims.
A Nice Place To Visit
I have never had the pleasure of going to Seoul, but I have seen videos and pictures of it and it looks like a very nice city and Hmmsim Metro makes me wish I could go on vacation there. South Korea in general looks like a great place, plus I love Spurs so Heung Min Son is a bit of a hero of mine. Anyway, back on topic. The point I am trying to make here is that this game is gorgeous. They have ultra-realistic visuals and I love how real everything looks and as I mentioned before you are driving your metro above and below ground so there is a lot of diversity here. Going from underground and seeing the light and then the sights of the city as you come out of an underground area is really well done, the lighting, in general, is fantastic. Also, the trains have a very high level of detail to them, I cannot speak for how authentic they are to the real thing, but they certainly look the part.
Holding The Line
If you have played any kind of train sim before, you will be familiar with what Hmmsim Metro has going on. You need to get the metro trains from point A to B and there are several lines for you to drive along. I liked how we were not the only train on the tracks there are other metro trains as well as those crazy fast trains too, it keeps you on your toes and makes you realize you need to keep on top of things as if you screw up, the whole system could go down. The game just feels good to play, I have played other train sims with more content, but they end up being “too much” for me, I feel with this one, I have a lot to do, but no so much I can lose track of things.
While I do think a game like Hmmsim Metro is always going to be an acquired taste. Basically, if you like train sims you will like this, if train sims have never clicked with you, chances are this won’t either. However, there is a third category here and that is those of you who have wanted to like train sims but found them too complicated. This has plenty to keep you busy, but not so much that it is overwhelming. I really enjoyed my time with this and while I had my fill with it in around a week or so, it was a really fun week while it lasted.
Pros:
- You have many different lines to drive on
- The city of Seoul is very diverse to drive through
- I found the game pretty easy to get to grips with
- I even learned a little bit of Korean thanks to playing this
Cons:
- I cannot see this winning over people who do not like train sims
- While I liked the game, I did end up having my fill with it and moving on

Game Reviews
Hmmsim Metro is a subway management simulator that exactly reproduces the Korean subway in Seoul. Developers from the company Jeminie Interactive tried to recreate the process of train control in the smallest details, starting from switching buttons in the cabin and ending with realistic scenery behind the window in the elevated part of the subway. To become a professional driver will have to understand such subtleties as adjusting the AC supply, announcing stops and giving an emergency signal.
Game Features:
- The total length of all subway branches is more than 30 kilometers
- A great opportunity to learn the most complex subway in the world from the comfort of your own home
