Her Tears Were my Light

Her Tears Were my Light may seem familiar to you and that is because this was released a few years back and this is kind of like a remaster. I never played the original release of this, but I had heard nothing but good things. I can tell you right now that this game is right up there with my top visual novels of the year. This is a gay love story and it is honestly one of the best that I have ever experienced in a game.

Chasing The Stars

When I read the synopsis of Her Tears Were my Light and it said that it was a love story between time and space, I thought that it was some kind of metaphor. Nope, this is actually about two celestial entities, Time and Space and it is their love story! Time is in a big void of pretty much nothing, but she can see some stars that are lighting up her dark and lonely world which she follows. These stars lead her to Space and the stars are actually the tears of Space and Time asks her what is wrong. From here we have a fantastic and very well told love story that will well and truly grab ahold of you!

Something Lurks In The Darkness

Most great love stories have a bit of tragedy in them and that is certainly the case with Her Tears Were my Light. You see, another entity shows up, and this entity that I will not spoil for you wants to keep Time and Space apart! This leads to a bit of a mystery story and also some darker, almost horror lite elements to the story. Do yourself a favor and if this in any way sounds cool and interesting to you, read nothing more about the story of the game as it truly is something that is so awesome when you are experiencing it all for the first time.

If I Could Turn Back Time!

Her Tears Were my Light is a visual novel and it is one of the cleverest I have played in quite some time. The game has three endings that you can obtain, depending on the choices that you make. The twist here is that Time can actually rewind time! It is a very clever way of playing with the save game mechanic and the game will even break the fourth wall sometimes to let you know this. You can rewind time and make different choices, but Time will be aware of this, even if Space is not. It makes for a very interesting and emotional way to experience the story. It is only around an hour long, but honestly, the run time here felt perfect for the game.

Purply Cute

The way that Her Tears Were my Light looks adds so much charm to the fantastic story. The game mainly uses purples and whites for the characters and the void that the game takes place in may look plain, but it makes sense. The game has a very cutesy kind of art style to it and I think that they do a wonderful job of showing the emotions that these characters are feeling. The story and the way that the characters are written are most certainly the big draw here, but the fantastic easy on the eyes visuals are an essential part of this package.
