It still amazes me that even today, we get game announcements that look impressive but tell us next to nothing. Chrono Odyssey is yet another one of those titles that look pretty but is littered with cryptic gobbledegook that doesn't offer a promising direction. It's becoming irritating for player bases that want a solid vision about how games will enrich their lives. But we know these trailers are designed for investors, not those who play games.

So what do we know about Chrono Odyssey thus far? It's a cross-platform, next-gen fantasy MMORPG slated for release in 2023, but it still needs more information behind what we have seen in trailers. Though we're not sure about the game's development status, we can give an overall perspective of what can be expected from this upcoming title.

Into the Unknown

A cinematic trailer, pretty visuals, and a cryptic medieval fantasy narrative. Yes, the elements are all there to build hype without promising too much about how Chrono Odyssey will pan out. It's a smart move, considering we've seen games that promise the world and deliver a slither of land in their final release. But is there anything we can extract from the trailers to give us insight into gameplay?

Apart from the final seconds of the teaser, not really. The idea of a next-gen MMO comes to fruition visually. The graphics during the combat scene are heavily detailed, highlighting that the game will likely take place in a dark medieval fantasy world, and combat will come in real-time hack-and-slash style. Other than that, mechanics are not widely drawn out, leading us to believe there's still plenty up in the air.

Chrono Odyssey will likely be a narrative-heavy MMORPG, with plenty of cutscenes already rendered, telling a story. The concept art offered to the public backs that notion, showcasing protagonists and antagonists that will likely be at the heart of the storyline. Those stills also project different biomes, character classes, and abilities, reassuring players that the game will feature its classic MMO elements.

But that's all the information we've had for a couple of years now, leading us to believe Chrono Odyssey might be stuck in direction for the time being. Perhaps it's been canceled altogether, simmering quietly into ashes. Nothing was promised after all, and the initial idea of the game was so cryptic it probably caused players to lose interest in something more established.

We definitely wouldn't have enough fingers or toes to count the number of times we get an epic MMORPG announcement only for there to be no communication after. Sometimes, you can't help but wonder if these things are released only to get some funds injected into the company or be a downright scam. It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened, like the famous case of Oath.
