BOXMAN

In Boxman, you step into the shoes of Jake, a box-stacker at HAULR Co. HAULR Co. is a massive fulfillment center, much like an Amazon distribution point or other major warehouse. Not only do you need to do your job fulfilling orders at HAULR Co., but you also need to survive your coworkers.

Complicating things is your girlfriend Emily, a cynical woman who also works with you. Think carefully about how you handle your relationship with her, because she can either support you at the company, or make things a whole lot harder for you. Boxman is a unique mixture of management, h-scenes, and relationship building.

Distinctive Graphics

Boxman has a dark, brooding color palette that really works well with the gloomy mood of HAULR Co. The developer, known as Ntrman on his Patreon, is a talented artist who does a great job of making detailed graphics that truly sets the mood.

This extends to the h-scenes. Ntrman has planned a total of 64 CG scenes, which is pretty ambitious for a solo dev project. Although only about 15 are available right now, they are being developed at a rapid pace and more are coming out all the time.

Voices may be added

Although the voices have not yet been added, there are plans for the various characters to be voiced in a future update. There also may be translations coming soon for other languages. Although these things are planned for the future and aren’t out yet, they do show the dev plans to continue producing updates in the future.

Reactive H-Scenes

On top of great graphics and continuous updates, Boxman also has reactive h-scenes that allow you, the player, to set the pace. Want to see some fast and furious action? You are one click away from doing so. Prefer things calm, sensual and slow? You can adjust the pace that direction as well.

These small adjustments make the game so much more immersive, and the h-scenes a lot hotter.

Deep Gameplay

Adult games are usually all about getting to those sweet, sweet h-scenes, but Boxman goes the extra mile to provide an enjoyable game as well. You have to survive your shift at work, where you play a fairly simple mini-game packing orders.

Things get more complicated when your coworkers’ clock-in. There are four coworkers, all of whom are a “nuisance” in some way. The goal of each work day is to keep Emily in a good mood while avoiding the difficult co-workers and still somehow getting your work done. It’s not just Emily who is suffering either. You’ll have to look after your character’s health during the shift too. Jake gradually becomes more depressed and fatigued as the shift continues. You’ll have to take steps to reduce that fatigue as much as possible—or no energy for h-scenes!

Luckily, your paycheck allows you to purchase small comforts for the apartment, helping improve the mood of both Jake and Emily with each comfort added. Don’t get too crazy with expenditures though, Jake also has some debt that needs to be taken care of. You’ll need to spend wisely to be able to move forward in the game.

This is a surprisingly well put together game considering how simple the plot is. Winning the game will require careful consideration. Right now, there aren’t a lot of endings available as the game is still in production, but there is still plenty to do and work with in the game itself.

Early Access

As of right now, the game is in early access. Most of the endings are currently incomplete, and there may be bugs. Despite the fact that it is early access, the game is in remarkably good shape and is improving all the time.

On top of this, the developer regularly communicates with the community, listens to what they want, and makes changes or additions based on their input. If a bug or a problem comes up, you can rest assured the developer will listen to the issues and try to make the game the best that it can be.

Ntrman currently describes the game as “in rough shape,” but compared to many adult games thrown out well before they’re ready, it’s remarkably good. It does need more CGs, but every effort is being made to get more content out quickly. If you want to invest in an adult game that is steadily improving, this is a great choice.
