Bomberman Jetters

The Bomberman series has built a huge fan base over the years with engrossing games that could keep you playing for hours. Even the last title, Bomberman Generation had a strong showing as a great platform game continuing the Bomberman tradition. That's one of the reasons why Bomberman Jetters was so surprising. Although still a decent platform game, there is a severe lack of originality that basically makes it feel like Bomberman Generation repackaged.

Bomberman Jetters does offer a few new features but unfortunately not enough to substantially impact the gameplay. For instance, you can switch over and play as Max, an old enemy of Bomberman's now fighting with him. He offers a different style of attack but largely adds little impact to the game. Other features such as new charabom, critters that give you specific abilities, also offer little impact to the gameplay and when combined with easily solved puzzles, it can become rather monotonous.

Continuing with the lack of significant improvements, the graphics for Bomberman Jetters look almost identical to Bomberman Generation. The levels do offer a certain amount of variety but there is little evidence of any noticeable changes. In addition, the graphics appear dated, missing the detail newer games are producing.

The multiplayer options do bring some luster with four different modes: Knockout Battle, Battle for Balloons, Battle one-two, and Standard Battle mode. This is where fans of the classic Bomberman will get their fix as the addictive nature of Bombman reappears and makes the game worth at least renting for fans of the series.

Bomberman Jetters comes across as a quick knock off of Bomberman Generation, but does only cost $20. Although Bomberman fans might still get something from the multiplayer options, most will find their money better spent elsewhere.
