Airship: Kingdoms Adrift is one of the cooler looking strategy games to be released in 2022. The idea of captaining a floating airship in a fantasy land is something that greatly appeals to me! As I am writing this, what we have here is a game that is in early access so, by the time you come to play it, it very well could have way more features and be more polished than when I spent time with it. Still, even though this is an early access game, there is something undeniably cool about this game and that is why I want to talk about it today.

Be Greater!

Ok, so that was a cheesy pun related to the epic Miles Morales game, but the storytelling on offer in Airship: Kingdoms Adrift is something I think is awesome. Set in the fantasy world of Europa, there has been a war that has kind of reached its endpoint. You as a captain take on a job where you are now the captain of a vessel called the Segson Archipelago and you find yourself thrust into an epic adventure that will see you become something you never thought possible.

It Is All About The Crew

While you are the captain in Airship: Kingdoms Adrift, you cannot do it all alone as you sail the high… skies. You will get to pick from the better part of 30 other characters to be part of your crew as you embark on your adventure. What is neat about this is that once you have enlisted them to your cause, you can build better relationships with them, upgrade them and ultimately make them the best damn crew the skies has ever seen. If you love people management, you are going to get a huge kick out of this that is for sure.

Combat In The Skies

As this is a strategy game, combat plays a huge part in things, and the combat in Airship: Kingdoms Adrift is something that I think is a great deal of fun. You will have to take on many different foes ranging from air pirates to lawmen who are not exactly thrilled about what you and your crew are up to. Combat is very strategic and you will have to think very carefully about each move that you make. What I like about the combat is that you are free to go about it any way that you want, I am more of a hit first ask questions later kind of guy, but those of you who want to be a bit more cerebral about things will be impressed about how much diversity there is in regards to combat in the game.

Keeping Your Hands On The Airship Wheel

As well as combat and managing your crew, there is actually a great deal for you to keep you busy in Airship: Kingdoms Adrift. There are a vast number of resources that you can obtain and you can do this via striking up relationships with others, going on quests, and even taking them by force. I know for some people, this may seem like a daunting game to get into and there is sure to be a learning curve as there is so much for you to do, you even have to build various industries so you can profit and get new stuff as well.

I would say that Airship: Kingdoms Adrift is certainly best described as a 4X strategy game. I know that the trailers and the various screenshots make it all look like it is just fun and games, but there is a ton of depth to the gameplay here. It is going to be a game that demands a great deal from the player. However, I will say that this is one of the most fun strategy games released this year. While there is a great number of things you need to keep an eye on, it is so much fun, it never feels like a chore and you will be having a great time as you try to stake your claim for the skies of Europa.
